Below are all contraindications for the Spectrum laser / IPL machine; which will be the same on every "Am I a Good Candidate?" form.

This form is specifically for IPL: Acne, Skin Rejuvenation, Veins.

Please review the following contraindications carefully, as they may affect your eligibility for laser treatment. Answer all questions truthfully.

By proceeding with treatment, you acknowledge that you will sign a consent form and take full responsibility for your decision.

Each contraindication also lists a reason as to why it is not advised.

Sun Exposure (within past 2-4 weeks)

Reason: Recent sun exposure increases the risk of burns, pigmentation issues, or scarring due to heightened skin sensitivity to laser or light treatments.

Treatment area needs to be 2+ weeks without sun exposure.

Sunless Tanning (Spray Tan/Tanning Lotion within 3 weeks)

Reason: These products can mimic melanin, increasing the risk of uneven or excessive absorption of energy, leading to burns or pigmentation changes.

Treatment area needs to be 2+ weeks without sunless tanning products.

Retinol/Retin-A/Hydroquinone Use (within 3 days)

Reason: These substances thin the skin, making it more susceptible to burns, irritation, and delayed healing.

Accutane Use (within 6 months)

Reason: Accutane significantly increases skin sensitivity and can cause scarring or prolonged healing times after treatment.

Active Cold Sore/Fever Blister (in treatment area)

Reason: Laser treatments can exacerbate viral infections, potentially causing widespread outbreaks in the treatment area.

Pregnancy/Lactation

Reason: The safety of laser treatments during pregnancy or while breastfeeding has not been thoroughly studied, and hormonal changes could lead to unpredictable skin reactions.

Active Infection

Reason: Treating infected skin can spread the infection or cause serious complications in wound healing.

Immune System Disorders

Reason: Compromised immune systems may struggle with healing and infection control post-treatment, increasing the risk of adverse effects.

History of Skin Cancer

Reason: Laser or light treatments could stimulate existing precancerous cells or reactivate dormant cancer cells.

Diabetes

Reason: Diabetes can impair wound healing, increasing the risk of infection, scarring, and delayed recovery.

Use of Anticoagulants/NSAIDs (within 3 days)

Reason: These medications can increase the risk of bruising or bleeding during and after the procedure.

Cancer/Cancer Treatment (within the last 12 months)

Reason: Skin treated with radiation or chemotherapy may react unpredictably to laser treatments, causing burns or delayed healing.

Tattoos in Treatment Area (IPL/Diode/Long Pulse YAG)

Reason: Laser energy can be absorbed by tattoo pigments, leading to burns, pigment changes, or damage to the tattoo.

This is not advised unless you are looking to removal the tattoo.

Photosensitizing Medications

Reason: These drugs increase sensitivity to light, heightening the risk of burns or pigmentation issues.

Seizures

Reason: Some lasers and light treatments can trigger seizures in susceptible individuals.

Skin Types V-VI: Darker skin contains more melanin, which increases the risk of burns, hyperpigmentation, and scarring due to the IPL targeting melanin. NOT ADVISED / WILL NOT TREAT

Abnormal Response to Sunlight: Patients with photosensitivity can have heightened reactions to light treatments, increasing the risk of burns, blistering, or pigmentation issues.

Photosensitizing Medications: These medications can make the skin more sensitive to light, increasing the likelihood of burns or adverse reactions.

History of Seizures: The bright flashes from IPL can trigger seizures in individuals with epilepsy or similar conditions.

Neurotoxin/Filler within 2 weeks: Recently injected areas are more susceptible to complications, such as migration of the filler or unexpected tissue reactions.

Other Lasers/Peels within 4 weeks: Skin that has recently undergone these treatments is more fragile and prone to burns, hyperpigmentation, or scarring.

Tattoo/Permanent Makeup: IPL can alter the color of the tattoo or cause burns by targeting the pigment in tattoos.

Each contraindication exists to prevent adverse effects like burns, scarring, pigment changes, or infections, which can result from the skin’s altered response due to specific conditions.
